Private ski lessons at Snowbird

Private ski lessons in Utah, tailored entirely to you

Taking a private lesson is like a session with a personal trainer — but with no grunting and yelling. Whether it’s your first day on snow or your twentieth season, I’ll build a lesson around you: sort out your trouble spots, boost your confidence and take your skills to the next level. Private lessons focus on the individual, not the average of a group. It’s all about you.

One on one

The most bang for your dollar

Accelerate your learning with my undivided attention. A private lesson gives you personal service with a personal focus for whatever level you ski — plus lift-queue priority, so more of your time is spent skiing and less standing in line.Personal service, tailored to your ability and your goals.Lift-queue priority — the best start you can get for your time on the snow.Families: I take the hassle out of getting everyone sorted onto the right terrain.Full-day and half-day options (shorter on request).

Every level welcome

From first-timer to advanced

I’ve been teaching since 1982, and I’ve coached skiers at every stage of the journey. Wherever you’re starting from, here’s what a lesson tends to focus on:

First-timers

Never clicked into a binding? Start here. We build a beginner lesson from the ground up — how to stand, glide, stop and steer — on gentle terrain where you can find your feet without fear. No group to keep up with, no pressure. Just the basics, done right the first time.

Advancing beginners

You can get down a green run but it still feels like a fight. We smooth out those first turns, get you off the back seat and onto edges you can trust, and give you the confidence to explore more of the mountain instead of surviving it.

Intermediate

Stuck on the blues and eyeing the blacks? This is where private coaching pays off most. We sort out your trouble spots, replace the habits holding you back, and open up steeper terrain, bumps and variable snow at a pace that actually sticks.

Advanced

Even instructors are never fully satisfied with their own skiing — I’m no different. If you already ski well, we polish and hone: powder, steeps, off-piste lines and the fine movements that separate good from effortless. It’s all about you.

What a lesson looks like

Building habits that actually last

Skiing is a habit — a pattern of movement your body repeats on its own, without conscious direction. Learning to ski better isn’t really about understanding technique; it’s about replacing old, deeply ingrained habits with newer, stronger, more effective ones. That’s a big job, and an honest one: it takes more time than most skiers realize. In my experience it takes a minimum of three focused days — and usually about a week — to turn new movement patterns into solid skiing habits. So the most cost-effective approach is to commit to a run of lessons with the same pro, rather than a single one that fades by the next weekend. A skilled instructor can give each skier a completely personalized program, whether you come solo or share the week with friends who ski about the same way you do.Give yourself a few days in a row and you can change your skiing permanently. Life’s too short not to become the skier you picture in your head.
